OUR APPROACH

The economics department isn’t directly involved in scientific research, but it plays a significant role in understanding and addressing various socio-economic and environmental issues in the region. Currently, the economics department's work include the following areas:

Economists in the department focus on understanding the relationships between economic growth, social equity, and environmental sustainability. They develop models and strategies to promote sustainable development in the Caribbean, considering factors such as renewable energy, ecotourism, and sustainable agriculture.

REGIONAL ECONOMIC INTEGRATION

Given the interconnected nature of the Caribbean economies, researchers  investigate the benefits and challenges of regional economic integration, including trade, investment, and cooperation among the Caribbean countries. They also analyze the implications of global economic trends and policies for the region.

The department conduct research on fiscal and monetary policies, such as taxation, public expenditure, and monetary interventions, and their impact on economic growth, inflation, and financial stability in the Caribbean countries.

FISCAL AND MONETARY POLICY

The economics department engages in educational and capacity-building activities to strengthen the skills and knowledge of policymakers, practitioners, and students in the region. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, and training programs, as well as providing technical assistance and advisory services to governments and organizations
